Although there is an exception to that with some 3rd party templates not following the settings.
Search results snake oil. Only large sites of companies, that have lots of money, stand any chance of ranking high. Also you can concentrate on what you think are good key words but those words/phrases are unlikely the ones people will use....
Unfortunately not everyone seems to be aware what metadata is, including some "wanna-be experts" here in the forum.
Well, the bot (crawler) which indexes your page does "look" at that metadata and so should you. Your page might appear to be very pretty for the human eye, but the bot doesn't "see" it like that at all !
